How to Choose the Right Freestanding Bathtub Size

A freestanding tub needs room to breathe. Get the size right and it feels luxurious; too big and the space feels cramped. Use this guide to find the right fit.

1. Measure your space first

Measure the length and width of the area, then leave clearance around the tub—ideally at least 4–6 inches between the tub and any wall for cleaning and a balanced look. Don't forget to account for the door swing and walkways.

2. Match the length to your bathroom

  • Small bathrooms (under 5.5 ft of run): look at compact tubs around 43–55". A Japanese-style deep soaker maximizes depth in a small footprint.
  • Mid-size bathrooms: 59–63" tubs are the most popular all-rounder.
  • Large or primary baths: 65–67"+ tubs, including double-slipper styles, give two people room to stretch out.

3. Think about soaking depth and shape

If a deep soak matters most, prioritize water depth over length—slipper and oval tubs often offer a deeper well. Single-slipper tubs have one raised end for reclining; double-slipper tubs are symmetrical and great for sharing.

4. Plan for weight and delivery

Stone resin tubs are heavy—confirm your floor can support a filled tub plus bather. Large tubs ship by freight and are delivered curbside, so measure doorways and hallways to be sure the tub can be carried in. See delivery details in our FAQ.

5. Don't forget the faucet and drain

Decide between a freestanding floor-mounted faucet or a wall/deck-mounted option before installation, and confirm your drain's position. A drain is included with our tubs, and we recommend a licensed plumber for installation.
